dissent without action is consent
I'm too sick to talk about what's been happening to me these days so let me blab about other people's lives instead..

I found myself home alone in front of the tv yesterday afternoon watching a rebel soldier-slash-supposed-to-be-in-jail-guy-slash-turned-senator-slash-turned-fallen-action-star scour the streets of Makati and take refuge in an elite hotel for some kind of movement for "peaceful" change which with the way he and his men did it was in no way peaceful. If you are Filipino and if you are one of the hotel guests disturbed yesterday at the Manila Peninsula, then you would know who I am talking about.

I don't think I need to summarize the rebellion that Antonio Trillanes and the Magdalo group held yesterday coz it was pretty big news anyway. Everyone's been talking about it. The media made sure to that and even exaggerated some points.

Some say he was just bored and frustrated in prison, hungry for some publicity, and angsty for being deprived of his rights to exercise his powers as a senator... and so he decided to be an action star once more (Manila Pen is Oakwood Part 2) proclaiming "dissent without action is consent". His motto sure does have a point because even if you do disagree with the "bulok" system, doing nothing to correct it is similar to consenting to it ("silence means yes"). True. . and with this quotation, Trillanes sure did stir a lot of slumbering willpower in the hearts of many Filipinos. Who knows what might happen on the next few days or months? I just hope that willpower was stirred for a cause. I hope that the motive behind yesterday's rebellion was truly for bringing about good change in the country, not just for personal interest. I hope that the bottom line of all this isn't again about feeding the powerful's hunger for even greater power.

Anyhow, no matter how you process the situation and which ever side you take, any action which involves jeopardizing innocent civilian lives will still never be a justifiable solution, whatever kind of principles one is fighting for. Trillanes, being a strong symbol of those yearning for this so-called change, ultimately opposed what he was rebelling for when he decided to go into a packed hotel establishment wherein he knows, in the course of his actions, people could get hurt or killed, even if luckily in the end everyone did get out safely.

Misuse of authority and fame sure goes a long way. By this, I do not refer to Trillanes alone, but to all the powerful ones who choose to set aside the greater good and put to further crumbling what is left of the people's trust in the government.

But hey, I don't think I am in any position to question their selfish actions. I'm a Nursing student who wishes to be out of the country as soon as I graduate to earn thousands of dollars a year serving sick foreigners. Foreigners, not my own countrymen. So who's selfish now?! Sometimes, even if I do generally like my course, I still can't help wondering if this was truly what I was meant to do.. to leave my country and get rich on my own.

I think that's the general problem among Filipinos. Everyone just wants to leave. No one wants to stay here and love their country. It's like it's been cursed or something. Everyone's itching to get away... and yet everyone knows this fact and everyone's complaining and doing nothing about this fact. It's quite ironic really.. knowing what the problem is and yet continuing to be a part of it. Truly, dissent without action is consent.

However, these unfortunate truths make me have second thoughts about Trillanes' credibility. Whatever his real motives are, at least he's here, shouting for change. Not planning to flee. That's as far as I know.

Kung bibigyan ka ng pagkakataong mamili, pipiliin mo bang
maging isang Pilipino?--Bob Ong

Happy Bonifacio day brave Filipinos.

not another sorry letter
Mood: super dooper todo senti..

To Thony:

Ok, here's your letter. I'm sorry it took too long. I'm sorry it's late. I didn't want to scream to the world what it says so I just took a picture of it instead, a proof that I really did write tonight. I don't think anyone has such good eyesight as to be able to make out the words from the image. Err at least I hope so, coz what's in it is pretty embarrassing.

This letter does not and cannot say it all, but it does have a piece of me...

I AM SORRY.. not only because I missed our monthly tradition (hoi nakalimot ka rin dati noh!) but also because of reasons beyond that.. 'Lam mo na yun. (waah. ang korni. pero seryoso at mabigat 'tong sulat na 'to pare.)

I love you. Happy 20th month to us.

a series of unfortunate events
Mood: err.. can't think of a mood right now. BTW, I'm sorry for the really long posts. I just really write a lot. I can't seem to control myself.

I would be bluffing if I told you that the reason why I have't been able to update in about a week is because I've been busy with school since second semester has finally started. In fact, what I did a lot for the whole week was sleep, sleep and sleep like a bear in hibernation.

The reason why I've been away from the PC (yeah like anybody cares that much) is that our home lost both phone and internet connection for one whole week because some rude and ruthless thief stole the telephone wires which are supposed to be connecting our home to the outside world... and he probably did steal a bunch of other neighboring houses' wires too. The guy (or guys, girl, girls.. whatever.. I've no idea) should damn well be desperate to keep his family alive to do such a brutal thing as to deprive me with internet connection in the comfort of my own home!Tama bang pagdiskitahan pati linya ng telepono?!! Anyway, the problem's fixed now so I'm back.

It's one sad truth about living in the Philippines. People could go about stealing anything from national funds to the wet clothes hung in the clothesline on your backyard. Others steal things to fight off hunger and have their children survive through another day while others do it because they're too greedy and selfish to be contented with a few luxurious mansions under their names. But hey, I need not be particular with the Philippines about stealing. It happens all over the world. Duh.

Anyway, since my post is entitled 'a series of unfortunate events', which I obviously stole from that movie entitled the same, let's move on to the other bad lucks I've had this week...

There's still no news on my budding career as a lomographer except for that tragic one which tells of my second roll of film returning only 9 out of 24 shots for a mysterious reason which to this day I still haven't figured out. I'm working on my 3rd roll now. I hope such tragedy doesn't happen again. Please cross your fingers for me.

I got an excuse slip from the very first RLE class of the semester (not a very good first impression to give your new clinical instructors). Guess why? I forgot to wear my freakin' wristwatch!... something which only an absent-minded person filled with neglect and reckless imprudence could do. I sure did have my fair share of rants from the year level coordinator for committing such a crime. Yeah, in Nursing not wearing your wristwatch is a heinous crime. Or at least in our university where everything is supposed to be exaggerated.

On the same day, I also forgot two of my newly purchased school books at the comfort room. Yeah, like, FORGOT. I only realized that I wasn't carrying them with me after an hour.! The person who found them apparently didn't think of looking for the rightful owner or surrendering them to the lost and found section as options. She probably thought she was having really good luck that day coz I never found the books again. Oh but there's REALLY nothing to fuss about, the books ONLY cost 700 pesos anyway! That's only about one huge and mouth-watering Yellow Cab pizza! Right. I so hate myself for that.

Oh and apparently, Thony hated me too for that (he was the one who spent time waiting at the looong queue to the university bookstore to buy those books for me on that very same morning)! He called me "bobo".. as in unintelligent, unsmart, pinhead, dimwit, stupid.. or whatever other word which means the same. I cried. Yeah. It was sad. Although, erm, he did have a point. But still, I got angry.. and I ended up making him cry too.! Hah, payback is sweet. lol.

Anyway, all the bad luck seem to have been warded off by my new doll.. it's a voodoo doll actually. I know voodoo dolls are made to cause their objects bad luck and other terrible and tragic things but I'm not intending on using it on anyone (unless someone makes me really angry.. hihihi.. nah just kidding.. don't be scared, I'm harmless..). This doll was hand-made for me by my good high school friend Nico. He's the one who always loved witchy stuff and I'm not sure if he has pursued his being Wiccan. As a kid, I've always wanted to be a witch. But as I grew older I figured my parents would kill me if I did become one. I've tried doing a spell with two of my friends back in high school though. Err, nothing worked. But we had fun being creepy that day.

BTW, I would like to thank those who suggested names for my new sneering devil doll mentioned on my previous post. You made me happy. : ) Thony said he looks like that Pokemon named Gengar. So I decided to name it.. well.. yeah.. GENGAR! Talk about being original.

About my new classmates, they're ok. I have new friends.. Jan and Mitch. I so looove them right now coz they've been so nice to me since day one.I'm also loving my schedule coz it's compatible with Thony's so now I won't have to wait for him for an hour and a half each day anymore like I did last semester. But I'm really missing Peachy, Joan and Rain. Ow.

I spent yesterday at Candaba with the whole family for my uncle's victory party. He won as councilor, for the third time in a row! Nagvideoke kami ng kapatid at pinsan ko. Nung una kunwari nahihiya-hiya pa, tapos maya-maya nag-aagawan na sa mic. Hehehe. Oh here's a picture from our way to Candaba. It doesn't really make any sense. I just love the blue skies and the endless green fields.

I'm also happy to announce that our Christmas tree is now standing tall and proud at the living room!

i want my christmas tree!
Mood: moody

My mom promised that we'd put up the Christmas tree yesterday afternoon (Christmas at home starts November.. only in the Philippines tol!). If you were there, you would see how my eyes twinkled when she announced it... coz I'm in love with our Christmas tree, or maybe with any Christmas tree for that matter! It's what that kid named Kevin from Home Alone and I have in common.

Anyway, she told me they'll take a short nap before anything else and when they get up we'll start decorating right away. I anticipated it.. and waited.. and waited as they (my parents) slept all afternoon. But when they finally woke up at around 5:30 p.m. she declared that we'll put up the tree some other time coz it was too late to start it that day. Crap. I was so disappointed that I didn't talk to her for the rest of the night. Er. But I don't think she even noticed my fretting because she was still all bubbly and loud as always. Uh maybe I should put more effort on this until she finally notices that hello I'm actually angry!. Grr.

On with other matters... Upon my last visit to SM Megamall (not that I frequently visit the place.. kapitbahay lang namin yung SM Clark eh ehe), i came across this black sneering devil sneering (duh) at me from its shelf with the most evilly menacing look I've ever seen out of a non-living thing. And well, yep of course I fell in love with it. I usually always fall for the evil ones. But I came home without it though. Even if it costs only 80 pesos, we brought just enough money for our stomachs to have their fill.

Anyhoo, I promised myself that someday I'd come back for it and it'd be mine. Bwahaha! (*devilish laugh you hear from villains in soap operas*).

Tonight, however, I now know why destiny didn't allow me to buy it with my own money back then (I just realized there's actually a purpose for everything!). It's because I can get it free pala! Hehehe. My sister went to MOA today, apparently found a shop that sells them, and bought one devil for me as pasalubong. I seriously think she's psychic. I mean, how could she possibly have known?! I don't remember telling her about this sneering devil before... MOA is such a huge place to pick as pasalubong the one thing I've sworn to possess someday...

Thanks to Tin's beyond-normal abilities, I am now a fulfilled being. lol.

I've been wondering what I should name it. The names Debby and Devil were already taken by my first two equally devilish stuffed toys. I was thinking of Blackie.. But Blackie's more like for puppies.
any suggestions?!

BTW, Thony also bought for us these piggy phone bling blings last week. Akin yung black kasi medyo maitim ako at kay Thony naman ang white dahil siya ay maputi. Discrimination na ba to?! hmpf. Ah basta, black is beautiful.! Pero ankyut din nila! I need names for them too. Hmm..

all that "emo on tv" crap
Mood: eewi.
From now on I will be observing proper capitalization of my words on this blog. I promise. Please hit me when I fail to comply.

I've been reading Harry Potter 7 when July, a classmate of mine, texted me saying there's some kind of tv show at channel7 (GMA) featuring emo stuff at that moment. Thinking it must be something interesting considering that it's a highly commercialized network talking about a kind of music that's supposed to be "underground", i turned the tv on for the first time in, what, one month? (Yes, I can live a long life without tv, thank you very much).

It turned out it was "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho" or whatever the title of her show is. I tell you, I had tears in my eyes while I listened to her narration. Why? It wasn't because I got carried away by the melancholic lyrics and the angry teenagers who reportedly tried to cut themselves to death. But it was because err.. you know that feeling when you listen or see something so corny that you start to get teary-eyed for no reason at all? Yep, that's it.

Oo nakornihan ako. I didn't expect someday hearing Jessica Soho talk about uhm "emotional hardcore", as she defined it. Errm. I also couldn't take the heavily eyelined faces of the kids they've featured. They were obviously just posing. (Duh, what do you expect anyway? It's for television wtf.)

Any music is beautiful.. no matter how happy or angsty it is. It just turns an ugly shade of every color when someone barges in, overrates it and turns it into poseur. Kaya nga naging corny. Wala lang.

I didn't tell July of my reaction though. He loves emo so much, he "bleeds" for it. Well, not literally.

LomoLove
Mood: in love

uh i'm sorry for the unannounced hiatus. i've been a little busy lately.. plus i think our pc's mad at me. it shuts down ten minutes after i turn it on. but we've made peace now. hmm.. so, what have i been up to anyway?

well for one thing, i spent 2 days of bloody battle just to freakin' get enrolled for the next semester. i had to deal with employees on menopause (both women and men!) who shouted at students for asking questions or for no reason at all, and FOUR WHOLE hours lined up at the accounting office. i seriously think that the university should improve their system.

but it was all worth it anyway coz at the end of the day i finally got the discount money from my scholarship. the discount percentage varies depending on what your average is. this sem i got a 45% discount which is a lot higher than what i got last year. weee.. i'm rich! one of the major reasons why i strive to get good grades is this reward money hihihi. yes, i'm materialistically evil.

so, since i'm rich nowadays i dragged my dad to manila to help me buy my own lomo camera. i'm not sure if you've heard of lomography yet but if you haven't, you have to try it. it's a lot of fun. lomography uses toy cameras and brings back film into the digital world we have today. lomo cams are so cute and vintage. their main concept is actually "don't think, just shoot". it's really all about putting extra fun in photography. if you want one though, you won't find them at malls anywhere. you'll have to order them over the net, go to quiapo, or in my case visit Teammanila, a really cool lomoshop somewhere in Makati. Lomography is not that popular in the Philippines yet but back in manila, lomographers have their own community called lomoManila. i was thinking of creating "lomoAngeles".. haha. but i know no lomographers around here. that's sad.

anyway, since i'm still an amateur at this thing, i bought one of the most basic of all lomocams but probably one of the most fun to work with.. it's the Fisheye 2. i named mine Fishywishy. lol. with this cam, everything is seen in a 180-degree world. i also got a Colorsplash Flash with it for some color. i had my first film developed at digiprint a few days ago. errrm, most of them were awfully ugly. ow it's my fault anyway.. i should've read the techniques first before shooting like mad. oh well, we learn from our mistakes, right? eheh.

anyway, the following are fisheye shots at home and from the Tigtigan Terakan King Dalan last oct 27. the last giant beer picture is not from fishywishy though. it's just so cute i wanna hug it. hihi.

i went to the tigtigan with thony, tin and her new guy jerome. we did a lot of walking and after about an hour found a table for ourselves. i'm glad it was near the stage so i got to see the dawn perform. silent sanctuary was also there but i'm not that familiar with their music. the last band i saw, five against the wall, was my favorite among all those i've seen that evening. they're reggae and they played "no woman no cry"... an all-time favorite of mine.

i know that brawls are essential in tigtigan events but this one is probably the most chaotic tigtigan i've ever been to. glad we came out unhurt, although i wanted to kick that guy who showered us with beer while we were innocently passing by. we were at my home just before the sun came up. thony and i slept at the living room.. i took the long couch while he slept on the cold floor. we were knocked out. tin said that one of us was snoring... oh but it wasn't me! hihi.

for halloween, as is our family tradition, my mom bought candies for us to give away to trick or treating kids. i saw this one kid wearing horns (yung umiilaw na sungay ng devil na sinusuot na parang headband) who was so cute that i gave him extra candies.

Nov. 1 of this year was a little different from my other usual 1st of Novembers because instead of going to La Pieta in the evening, we visited our dead loved ones early in the morning. ow i miss my lola "Sofia" and lolo "Ernesto". naks. sosyal ang pangalan. afterwards, we went to Candaba for my dad's dad, lolo "Jose".

potter, one of our dogs, has a new haircut. he's bald and ugly now. but i'm sure his hair will grow back in a few weeks anyway. oh yah and btw, we also voted for the barangay elections. i voted for our neighbor and he won!

i've done the semestral general cleaning of my room and i swear you can't imagine how much junk has accumulated there in a matter of 5 months. it's somehow clean now.

now i have to face reality: vacation's almost over. no more time for procrastination. ugh. i sometimes hate reality.
