Thursday live in Manila
May 30 '08. a Friday. I thought it was just another sluggish day... one of those days when I choose to be inefficient by sleeping all morning and all afternoon, waking up occasionally only to get something to eat. Good for me coz little did I know, later that night, I wasn't getting any sleep at all. That afternoon, I awoke from my sweet slumber at 4:00 p.m. and found a couple of messages on my phone, one of which is from my friend Ivan (better pronounced as Ayban) reminding me about that night's big agenda. OMG. I totally forgot. THURSDAY (for those who might be confused, 'Thursday' IS the band name), one of the bands I happen to worship was visiting Manila and their Makati show was scheduled that night (you'll find a line about this event on my recent post, just scroll down a bit and you'll see it). One reason why the event totally slipped off my mind was that I've already discarded any thought of ever being able to attend it days ago when I asked my mom once if I could go and her immediate and predictable answer was NO. But still, there was this pressing feeling within me which kept on telling me I wasn't supposed to lose hope. Ivan wasn't helping either, he bombarded me with nagging text messages, one of which goes something like:
I panicked. There I was, a kid whose brain is not functioning well from all that sleep, with less than 5 hours before the show starts, province/s away from the venue and not enough money to even buy a concert ticket and a bus ride home. The idea of even taking a shower and packing my things to go there was absurd and ridiculous. But to make the long story short, 30 minutes later, I was on the road to Thony's house to wake him up (apparently he was having a sluggish day too) and tell him we're going to Manila to watch Thursday, a band which he never even knew existed until then. He was furious at first (biglain ba naman ang bagong gising hehe). But being the supposed-to-be understanding boyfriend that he is, he had no choice but to come with me. BTW, don't ask how I got away from my mom and got the money. I happen to be brilliant when under pressure. lol. ![]() At around 7:00 pm, Thony, Ivan, Ivan's girl, and I hopped on a bus and our journey began. (Grr. ang dami ko nang nasulat pero nagsisimula pa lang ang journey. Tinatamad na ata ako. hehe.) We reached Makati at 9p.m. We had to do a great deal of walking before a cab finally picked us up from the street (thank u very much!). When we got to the A-Venue Hall (the venue), the show has already started, but only with the first front act which was April Morning Skies, immediately followed by Angulo. The crowd became more excited when Chicosci took the stage. Thony and I had a funny discovery that night: that we both have a crush on Miggy, Chicosci's vocalist. Wahaha. Kidding aside (or maybe I'm not kidding hehe), I thank Chicosci for playing 'Paris', one of my favorite songs from them. After their set, Typecast followed. I don't remember hearing them play any of my favorite Typecast tracks but I still like them anyhow. Watching them play their songs live as opposed to just hearing them from the radio felt surreal. They also had such good connection with the crowd, giving off a sense of euphoric madness.I'm not sure how long their show lasted but I, and I believe the rest of the audience too, wish they played longer. Anyhoo, I'm glad I decided to come on that trip. The ticket was worth every centavo of it (though I would've been happier if it were cheaper!hihi). The bouncers shooed everyone off when it was time to leave. We lingered around A-Venue for a while after the gig, eyeing some VIP's who came and went. We even got a peek of Miggy. Hihi kilig. We had yummy goto at an anonymous carinderia and some taho before we hopped on the bus home and touched hometown just before sunrise at around 4 am, exhausted but fulfilled. toxic but giddy
Today was toxic as hell. Had an annoying bulk of exams this afternoon which led to me having yet another one of my occasional headaches. It was painful and crushing, as these things have always been. There was just too much information that I thought a seizure was next. Am really looking forward to the upcoming 4-day weekend! But on a lighter, giddier note, what made my day was that Armi, the vocalist of Up Dharma Down, one of today's most credible bands (an opinion, but a strong one), just sent me a personal message. Huge thanks to modern technology. 4.26.2008
bummer of the week
Mood: envious These guys got to meet Urbandub up close and personal at their mall show. See those triumphant grins as they strike a pose with Gabby? Lucky bastards.
Thony and I came a little too late. Big bummer. 4.07.2008
what's left of a summer vacation
Hey there. I apologize for the not-too-long absence.. I've got one week before our summer classes start.. Might as well make the most out of it.. Oral defense for the CDx is finally over. Big whew. I wouldn't want to elaborate but to summarize how it went, let me quote Mr. Lagazon, one of our panelists and only the oldest (literally) and most "batikan" among all C.I.s in our college: "I must say that you did a very good work." Quite a bland and simple statement to quote.. but there really was something blissfully fulfilling with the way he said it. You should've heard it yourself. I'm so thankful that the panelists' decision for our work is not to start all over again, a verdict which other sections sadly got. ![]() But that's not the end of CDx. We still have a few revisions to do on it. Our house have constantly been the home of some classmates for a few days now. CDx has kind of taken over what was left of a summer vacation for me. But even so, I wasn't going to let it completely grab all opportunities to have fun. Duh. ![]() Starbucks at SM Clark has finally opened. And it's not helping at all with my coffee addiction. Haha. Thony, Red, Arren, Mitch and I hung out at the place after spending the whole day at my house patching CDx things up. Had fun. Coffee and friends never fail to make me happy.
We drove to the Camayan Beach at Subic to get some kind of timeout for all of us. The place is so damn "photogenic". ![]() On to other serious matters.. I've developed yet another addiction.. Something which I, like all other addicts feel toward their addiction, unfortunately but delightedly can't get enough of. BTW speaking of my guy, Thony's older brother purchased a handsome Toyota Vios. Now Thony, being the "sipsip" younger bro that he is, would of course be free to drive it around. Ok now I'm green with envy. Labels: blah, family, favorite people, muzik, photography, skool, trip 3.29.2008

all that "emo on tv" crap
Mood: eewi.
![]() From now on I will be observing proper capitalization of my words on this blog. I promise. Please hit me when I fail to comply. I've been reading Harry Potter 7 when July, a classmate of mine, texted me saying there's some kind of tv show at channel7 (GMA) featuring emo stuff at that moment. Thinking it must be something interesting considering that it's a highly commercialized network talking about a kind of music that's supposed to be "underground", i turned the tv on for the first time in, what, one month? (Yes, I can live a long life without tv , thank you very much). It turned out it was "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho" or whatever the title of her show is. I tell you, I had tears in my eyes while I listened to her narration. Why? It wasn't because I got carried away by the melancholic lyrics and the angry teenagers who reportedly tried to cut themselves to death. But it was because err.. you know that feeling when you listen or see something so corny that you start to get teary-eyed for no reason at all? Yep, that's it. Oo nakornihan ako. I didn't expect someday hearing Jessica Soho talk about uhm "emotional hardcore", as she defined it. Errm. I also couldn't take the heavily eyelined faces of the kids they've featured. They were obviously just posing. (Duh, what do you expect anyway? It's for television wtf.) Any music is beautiful.. no matter how happy or angsty it is. It just turns an ugly shade of every color when someone barges in, overrates it and turns it into poseur. Kaya nga naging corny. Wala lang. ![]() I didn't tell July of my reaction though. He loves emo so much, he "bleeds" for it. Well, not literally. 9.15.2007
the chonkeys
Mood: reggae-ish
"diksyonaryo" by the chonkeys the first time i had my ears on this song was like three years ago at the clark music festival. i instantly fell in love with it right there on my spot at the front line of the pit. i don't know about you, but my friends and i found it kinda funny.. uhm especially that punch line in the end. the chonkeys played then along with radioactive sago project, bamboo and wunjo (i think that was the time when i almost or maybe if you're simply looking for some good pinoy music. but then again, we have different tastes. other people may find them trashy. whatever. i love 'em.
